How to apply for a RAS or ACAT assessment and home care
Before you can receive government funding for home care, you’ll need to register with My Aged Care, and complete a RAS or ACAT assessment. This will determine if you’re eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) or a home care package (HCP). It can take up to 18 months to receive a HCP, so it’s best to start this process as soon as you can.
Our specialist team is here to help you at any stage – from providing advice to help you with your initial registration and assessments, to choosing the services you need – so you can contact us before, during or after you start this process.
Stage 1: Book your assessments
-
Step 1 - Register with My Aged Care
Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au. They’ll register your details and refer you to your local Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or Regional Assessment Service (RAS).
-
Step 2 - Income/assets assessment
Visit the Department of Human Services (DHS) or call 1800 227 475 to request this, as it helps determine how much government assistance you’ll receive for aged care.
-
Step 3 - Your aged care assessment
Your local RAS or ACAT will contact you to book a face to face assessment at your home or hospital to determine your needs and eligibility for government funding.
Stage 2: Join waitlist and book home care
-
Step 4 - HCP approval & join the waitlist
If you had an ACAT assessment, My Aged Care will confirm the HCP and services for which you’re eligible. You’ll then join the waitlist for HCP funding, which can be 6 to 18 months long.
-
Step 5 - Receive your CHSP funding
If you’ve been approved for the CHSP by the RAS or ACAT, you can receive funding straight away for some home care services.
-
Step 6 - Contact us for home care
You can book and pay for home care services using your CHSP or own funds while you’re on the waitlist, so contact us to find out how we can support you.
Stage 3: Get your CHSP and choose provider/s
-
Step 7 - Connect with CHSP Provider
Once you’ve completed your assessment, your assessor can refer you to local providers or give you your referral code, you can contact us if you wish to choose CCA as your preferred service provider.
-
Step 8 - Book a care plan conversation
We’ll come to you to discuss your needs, and answer any questions you may have. Once you’re ready and agree to services, our staff will work with you to develop a personalised care plan.
-
Step 9 - Enter Home Care Agreement
We’ll start providing your home care services. Our staff will check in with you each month to see if your needs have changed, and adjust your services if required.
