Narelle Barker, now retired, was a teacher and leader in government and independent schools across two states, for over 40 years. She holds a Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diplomas in Teaching English as a Second Language and Educational Computing, and a Diploma of Teaching.
Passionate about helping those in need and serving her community, Narelle learnt the importance of ‘service’ when she was a young Girl Guide. This commitment continued and today she is an active member of the Ryde community supporting Ryde Salvation Army, Neighbourhood Watch, Meals On Wheels and through a number of local committees such as Ryde Festival and Events, Ryde Lunar New Year and Ryde Community Forum.
Narelle’s significant service to Education and the community was recognized in 2021 when she was awarded an Order of Australia, AM.
In addition, Narelle is Chair of the Board of SchoolAid, a national schools-based philanthropic organization, a position she has held since 2009. Narelle has a strong belief that young people can successfully initiate and action projects/programs to support others different ways, and at the same time, gain a sense of optimism and hope for the future.
Living in Eastwood, Narelle developed an understanding and appreciation of the broad range of services offered by CCA and its valuable work in the community. CCA’s mission of engaging with the community to enable better lives resonated well with her. She became a Director on the CCA Board in 2017.
