Volunteering Frequently Asked Questions
Why volunteer with CCA?
You can expect a lot from volunteering with CCA, including the chance to make friends, learn new skills and support the important work we do by standing alongside Australians in need until they can stand for themselves. Studies have shown that giving your time to help others can be good for your health, wellbeing and social skills, so you can expect to feel the positive impact in these areas too.
Who can volunteer with CCA?
CCA welcomes anyone wanting to share their skills, expertise, passion and time to express their interest in volunteering. Volunteering with CCA often requires working with some of the most vulnerable people in our community. To ensure that we get the right people placed in the right volunteer roles, we need to follow a rigorous recruitment process.
Due to the nature of our work, we require all our volunteers to undertake and return a satisfactory Police check. Where a volunteer role is working directly with or has access to the personal information of children, a Working with Children Check will be required.
What kind of work can volunteers do?
CCA offers a diverse range of volunteering opportunities. Volunteering roles include teaching young people from underprivileged backgrounds, tutoring basic English language skills to assist in settling into local communities, and providing pro bono legal advice.

Are there short-term or one-off volunteer opportunities?

Will I need to be interviewed?
CCA has a rigorous volunteer recruitment process that may include both a preliminary phone interview and a face-to-face interview with the recruiting manager. This provides us with the opportunity to ensure that we have the best match for you and to those we are committed to supporting.
Will I need to undergo any background checks?
All volunteers are required to undergo a National Police History Check and for roles working directly with or having access to the sensitive information of children, a Working with Children Check will be required. Each Volunteer Position Description will detail the background checks required for the role. If there are any other formal background checks required for the volunteer role you are interested in, you will be informed of this upon applying for the role. Depending on the opportunity, you may be asked to undergo reference checks or under additional suitability screening.
Will I receive any training?
Some positions require volunteers to attend formal training prior to commencing in the role, while other roles may provide on-the-job training. Training is generally provided by CCA staff.
How will I be supported whilst volunteering with CCA?
Each volunteer has a CCA staff member as an ongoing contact for advice, support and training in their role. CCA has a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to support staff and volunteers to ensure that you have a positive, rewarding and worthwhile volunteering experience.
