John has degrees in Economics and Law from the University of Sydney where he was involved as a Director of the University of Sydney Union and member of the Economics Faculty and Academic Board. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1979 and as a Barrister in 1984.
After admission in 1980, John was employed by Hunt and Hunt Solicitors for four years. He has since practised continuously at the Bar specialising in personal injury cases, insurance and commercial law. Outside the law, John and his wife Janelle were also owner/operators of Childcare Centres from 1988 to 2018 and property investors.
John has been a member of Ryde Rotary since 1985, chairing many committees and serving twice as President in 1992/93 and 2001/02. He was District Governor in 2012/13 and has held many administration and insurance positions in Rotary. He followed up as Chair of the Youth Exchange Committee from 2014 to 2018 and was a Board member and Chair of the Rotary Committee of Interplast Australia/NZ from 2020 to 2024.
John is currently Chair of the Rotary Zone (Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands) Insurance and Protection Committee (effecting insurance and assisting with risk management and child protection). He was recognised with an OAM in 2023, as was his wife Janelle.
John has been married for 45 years to Janelle and they have three children and two grandchildren. They have had a particular interest in Rotary Youth Exchange, with each of their children going outbound and their family hosting 28 inbound students
